Overview

Blyth & Blyth is a privately owned engineering consultancy who remain at the forefront of multi disciplinary engineering design, continuing to build on our strong past by providing design solutions that meet the modern day requirements desired by the built environment.

Our team consists of around 95 staff across our four offices. Our approach to having Directors leading on projects throughout the full project lifecycle is renowned in the industry, and they are supported by Associate Directors, Associates and staff ranging from Chartered Engineers to Graduates.

We believe we have a duty to encourage young people to enter and prosper within the construction industry.

Accordingly, we take a responsible attitude with respect to staff development and operate a graduate training programme, which is accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers and Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers. Our graduates have a structured, three-year training period, during which they attend both internal and external courses on the technical, legislative and managerial issues they will encounter as practicing engineers.

Training of staff is of course a continuous exercise and we make provision for all grades of staff to engage in CPD. We do this by means of internal and external seminars, at each office, where presentations are given either by our own people or by external companies. Our CPD topics include new technologies, health and safety matters, developments in construction law and facilitates a general sharing of experience and knowledge throughout the company.

Being an IT based organisation, we also regularly have staff attend courses on the use of our design software and drawing packages. The complexity of modern design and draughting systems requires the continual “refreshing” of our skills and is vital to ensure we continue to provide our Clients with a consistent and professional service. We utilise BIM modelling software.

Our approach is creative whilst balancing value. We understand that to create buildings the requirements of the other disciplines needs to be carefully considered. We do not believe our role to be limited to pure engineering- we believe that by acting as engineers we are able to add value to all aspects of the building.
